Sunny Glen Senior Community Smoke Alarm Project – 2025

April 19, 2025

On April 19th, members of the Danville San Ramon Rotary Club continued a proud tradition over two decades in the making — our annual Smoke and Carbon Monoxide Alarm Safety Project at the Sunny Glen Senior Community.

Thanks to the incredible efforts of our volunteers, we were able to test and install new smoke and carbon monoxide alarms, or replace batteries, in 93 homes. In addition, we distributed San Ramon Valley Fire Protection District (SRVFPD) fire safety packets to most of the 177 homes in the community.

While the day brought some logistical challenges due to last-minute cancellations, our dedicated volunteers stepped up with flexibility and teamwork — even doubling up on assignments to ensure every resident in need was helped. A huge thank-you goes to all who gave their time and energy to make this project a success.

A special shout-out to our Interact students, who played a key role as runners and rovers, hauling supply wagons and water across the community. Each of our nine teams had one or two Interact members who assisted with logistics and connected beautifully with the seniors. Their enthusiasm and helpfulness left a lasting impression.

We’ve already heard from several Sunny Glen residents who shared their appreciation for both the practical help and the meaningful interactions with Rotarians and students alike.

Special thanks to our committee members Gary Sloan, Kerry Richard, Ray Giles, and Roy Wendell of the SRVFPD, and to Barbara Sloan, Danny Gregory, and Julie McKinney for capturing the day’s work in photos.

This project is one of the best examples of service in action — community members coming together to improve safety, offer support, and build lasting connections.
